Kaedion Wynter, Class of 2011
I am a proud Leuzinger High School Multimedia Careers Academy (MCA) alumnus and a first year student at UCLA. I joined the MCA in 10th grade and it was one of the best decisions I made throughout my career at Leuzinger. For me, MCA classes were an advantage because they were smaller and gave me the opportunity to build supportive relationships with all of my teachers and fellow academy students. The classes I took and the people I met in the MCA have made me a well-rounded student, technologically and socially, which has prepared me for my future endeavors here at UCLA.

When I first started high school I felt like dropping out, but in 10th grade I joined the MCA and it changed my life completely. I took my first photography class because of the MCA. After I took the class I realize I had a talent for it and I wanted to pursue it as a career. The students and teachers in the MCA felt more like family. My English 11 teacher, Miss Dexter knew I was very interested in photography so she gave me a book about it that I have cherished ever since. The book helped me learn more about photography, and then when I took the MCA class it showed me the different elements of photography and I developed skills in Photoshop and creating pictures; with that I was able to win several awards. I’ll be attending the Art Institute in Hollywood and pursuing my career; I’ve already been able to get small jobs with the skills I obtained in the MCA: I’ve been hired to take photographs for baby showers, skaters, models, and quinceaneras. Not only did the MCA prepare for my position as an amateur photographer, but it helped me with my life. If it weren’t for the MCA I wouldn’t feel like I had a purpose in life and probably would have been in a gang and rehab like my father. I am honored that I had the privilege to be a part of the MCA because it gave me the support and skills to succeed in college and achieve my dream of being a professional photographer.
