DR. PAMELA BROWN, ASST. SUPERINTENDENT OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION

Pam Brown
Hello, CV Family!

My name is Dr. Pamela Brown, and I am the Assistant Superintendent of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. I have spent the last 22 years in education.  In this time, I have had the pleasure of working at two of the comprehensive sites (Leuzinger and Hawthorne), and am now at the District Office. Over these two decades, I served the district as an English Teacher, AVID teacher and Coordinator, Project Facilitator, Associate Principal, Principal and currently, Assistant Superintendent.

In CVUHSD, I have had the opportunity to work with amazing teachers, students and families. In working with them, I have learned the importance of human relationships and the need for individuals to feel heard, connected, and supported.  As the Assistant Superintendent of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, I am excited that we have a team committed to examining and, where needed, changing our organizational culture so that CVUHSD is a place where stakeholders enjoy the benefits of a diverse workforce and where everyone in the CVUHSD family experiences equity, feels included, and shares a sense of belonging.

SHAKIRA HOLT, District Equity Officer

Shakira Holt

I have spent the better part of the last twenty-three years as a teacher of some sort--from elementary to high school to college to middle school, back to elementary, and then to high school to stay.

Thirteen of those twenty-three years have been in CV, most often serving as English faculty, including a wonderful but brief time as the Leuzinger English Department Chair. I have also worked outside of the classroom twice. From 2013 to 2015, I served as the Hawthorne High School Dean of Students, and in 2020, I began serving in the role of District Equity Officer.

Since my arrival in CV back in 2009, I can attest that we have made significant strides in improving outcomes for students and families and in providing thoughtful support to assist certified and classified staff in doing their jobs more confidently and knowledgeably, but I don’t think any of us would claim that our gains are so vast that we can afford to take lightly the work yet ahead of us.

As District Equity Officer, I have the opportunity to contribute to our continued evolution into an antiracist, anti-elitist, pro-justice, pro-dignity educational institution, and I get to move toward this vision alongside the members of the Equity Team and our certificated and classified colleagues throughout CV. And we all, in turn, get to do this work for and with our students and their families.

I know this is work that matters because it compels me, and so many of us, to offer the very best of ourselves to it each day. We get to work out of our deepest beliefs and strongest convictions for the common good, which is not a bad way to spend a career.

BIO: I have been teaching English and Drama at Leuzinger High School for the past five years, and I am thrilled to be working as the Site Equity Coordinator this year. Equity work is important to me because I was privileged to attend strong public schools that provided me with the tools and the opportunities I needed to escape a challenging home life. I want to assure that all students at Leuzinger have access to the resources and support they need to be academically, professionally, and personally successful.

Linda Lai

BIO: I am an English teacher at Lloyde High School and am in my 18th year at Centinela Valley! Equity ensures we all have access and support to the same opportunities. As educators, we strive for this every day in how we plan and accomplish in the classroom and out. As Lloyde's Equity Site Coordinator, I hope to provide these opportunities for our students to motivate and encourage them to achieve their goals!

We are co-planning and co-teaching with teachers on campus as we revamp curriculum to include culturally relevant pedagogy. We are also starting mentorships with The Movement Enrichment Program to guide students for life after Lloyde, be it college, career, or the military.
