hello my name is Molly Melman and I am the coordinator of educational technology and special programs for Centinela Valley Union High School District I'm here today to give you information and updates regarding Internet safety and acceptable uses of the district network but first let's get a little background on where we are today let's take a look at some facts about technology building those statistics are a little scary but we have to realize that our children and our students have access to and are using technology and the internet as a part of their everyday lives remember when you were in school how did you get messages to your friends I'm sure an image of folding a note into an interesting shape and passing it off under the cover of your notebook to a friend is coming to my as you know today it's much easier and tremendously Foster to get messages out there and we have much less control over who ends up seeing that mess are you picking up Aristocrat whiskey smart so we all know that our information is out there but it's not just search what you put on the internet let's take a look  just about all of us have a digital dossier but many of us have no idea what it even is continue for Andy's entire life with pictures of the first time and he sits runs walks and talks  as Andy grows he will now be able to independently share information about himself who registers as a turn keeps tabs and all the searches on D makes from his IP address in college he buys books from Amazon which asks for is mailing address and credit card number on these credit card company adds even more details to his dossier the date time location and price of every purchase he makes and as Andy moves around the GPS in a cell phone Mabel's the service provider you know where he is and how many times he's been there recently he is also filmed by surveillance cameras whenever he walks into security College buildings Randy gets married his dossier expands to Encompass all the information about his wife and they started weblock together to share their thoughts and opinions online together they come show the pawn shop of digital tracks files that are recorded and stored under their names and website the purpose of the ATP is to prevent unauthorized access and unlawful activities using the district's technology and internet access to protect sensitive information  and to comply with zipper and irate regulations  in case you're not familiar with it Federal program that helps schools and libraries afford access to Modern communication systems like phone and internet submit is the children's internet protection act and it imposes Internet safety requirements on schools and libraries that received irate funding some of those requirements include that we must have an acceptable use policy  that we must educate our students about appropriate online Behavior which we do by deliver Common Sense Media digital citizenship online activities must be monitored that we must have a way to see and record what happening online and on District computers and devices  it's finally we must block obscene or pornographic content there are few things I would like to point out about Sentinel is acceptable use policy you should know that only current students and employees are authorized to use our Network refers to all district on computers and devices and District provided internet access also it is important to note that simply by using District devices or in access to user is agreeing to the AUP regardless of whether or not they have reviewed it  some examples of acceptable uses of the network include you for educational purposes for district business it is also Dental purposes during Duty your sister are not acceptable include any activity that is illegal concert safety or security concerns for the district educational content and using the network for commercial or business purposes  is important to remember to use the technology and the internet provided by the district for spa the network should have an expectation of privacy when using District technology and internet access activity Electronics and electronic files  every employees required to review and sign the district's acceptable use policy each year and they are kept on file and comply eraser for regulations  now that you know spread the word help to educate Centinela
